Can you place a generator on your house with a partial load?  Code says the generator must handle the load it is under.  You can size your generator to the load that is necessary.  If you have a 5000 sq ft house and place a 15 KW generator, you must decide what load you want placed on that generator  You can runs lights and your refrigerator, or maybe lights and one central air conditioning unit.  You can isolate the load to that generator.

Backup Generator Undersizing Can Cost You Money

Backup generators are designed to give you power when you loose local utility power.  How often does that happen?  That would depend upon where you live and your power utility company.  With a back up generator you can have power available whenever you need it and you won’t be without.  But you must have the correct size whole house generator for your home.

Air Condition Units Need To Be Efficient

The central air conditioning system in your home needs to be sized correctly.  If you over size the air conditioning unit, it will add humidity in your house.  It will be adding humidity because it short cycles.  It will not be running long enough.  If it short cycles, it will cause mold to build up in your house due to the moisture build up. 

Home Solar Powered Systems At The Solar Decathlon

Solar powered homes are being built now in our generation.  There is a group who builds a house every year for energy efficiency and lets everyone walk through it and ask any questions they want to the builders.  The solar decathlon is held annually during October in Washington, D.C.   It brings together 20 colleges and universities from around the world  to design and build the most energy efficient house.  It is put on by the US Department of Energy. The house of one team produced a surplus of energy during 3 days of rain.  Who says you can’t produce solar power during cloudy days?
