Air Condition Units Need To Be Efficient

The central air conditioning system in your home needs to be sized correctly.  If you over size the air conditioning unit, it will add humidity in your house.  It will be adding humidity because it short cycles.  It will not be running long enough.  If it short cycles, it will cause mold to build up in your house due to the moisture build up. 

It causes more damage to have an over sized air conditioning unit than it is to have an undersized unit.  It is better to under size it than to over size it. But if it is too much under sized, than what happens is when you do a lot of different things at one time like cooking, the air conditioner has to work harder and faster.  

For instance, let’s say you have a party and have a bunch of people in your house.  That’s not an everyday occurrence.  Some air conditioning installers say that when you need 5 tons you will get 5 tons of air.  But some units can go from a 3 to a 5 ton.  One foam installer told me to just get another air conditioning unit installed in my house for distributing air to different parts.  Then, if you need more air cooling in your duck work and your central unit can’t keep up, you can have a second air conditioning unit that will kick on.  You turn it on and allow for the company and it will blow enough air.

Is that cost efficient?  No, it’s expensive because you have to buy another whole unit and it’s got to have a separate air return.  It’s just another idea that you could do.  Like if you have 2 people living in a house and have a lot of parties.  You can also zone your system.  You can put the bedrooms on one unit and another unit can cool the kitchen and living area.  I don’t like the 2 zone air conditioning units.  When one unit comes on, the other one kicks on too.  It sucks one from the other.
